Press Release 18 June Hi-tech agriculture essential to address global food security challenge 18 Jun 2010
Strategies to reduce food waste, change dietary habits and improve the infrastructure for global food distribution have a key role to play, but ultimately our ability to feed a rapidly increasing world population depends on producing significantly more food, on less land and using fewer natural resources. Ensuring the world produces enough food to feed an increasing population affordably is one of this century’s most important global challenges, and whether agricultural productivity needs to increase by 70% or 100% by 2050, relieving hundreds of millions of people from poverty and malnutrition will require a second Green Revolution and a recognition that debates for or against particular farming systems and technologies are for the past.
The Future Demand for Food: Not an Issue to be Minimised 22 Apr 2010
